THOMAS KEITH HARRIS
T.K. HARRIS
T.K. Harris started his real estate career in 1907 and in 1909 he founded his own company, the T.K. Harris Agency. He was active in downtown Canton retail and commercial and suburban residential real estate. In the 1920’s, he developed the Village of Hills and Dales and served as its’ mayor until his death in 1958.
Mr. Harris served as president of the Canton Chamber of Commerce in 1921 and led in founding the Canton Development Corporation in 1935. He was the founder of the Canton Board of Realtors and served as its president, as well as president of the Ohio Board of Realtors.
His impact on the development of Stark County golf was significant both for private club members and public links golfers. Mr. Harris was one of the founders and served as the first president of Brookside Country Club. Brookside originally “Lakeside Country Club” was located near Meyers Lake in Canton. In 1921 the famous golf course architect Donald Ross designed and built Brookside Country Club along Perry Drive. After the 2005 restoration Brookside was recognized by Golf Digest Magazine as the “Number One Renovated Golf Course in America” and has been recognized by Golfweek Magazine as one of America’s “Top 100 Best Courses” since 2000.
In 1928 and 1931 Mr. Harris opened the two golf courses at Tam O’Shanter. The Hills and the Dales courses were built using the Donald Ross style by architects and engineers who had worked with Mr. Ross on the Brookside Country Club project.
Mr. Harris’s vision for Tam O’Shanter was “a country club for the everyday golfer” with conditions, amenities, and service quality normally associated with private clubs. Through the decades, Tam O’Shanter has remained true to Mr. Harris’s vision. Recently, local golfers voted Tam O’Shanter “Stark County’s Best Public Golf Course” for five consecutive years.
MIKE LAGODICH
Mike played on the Lehman High School golf teams that qualified for the State High School Championships in 1972 and 1973. He won medalist honors in the 1973 sectional qualifier with a round of 70 at the Edgewood Golf Club.
Mike won the Stark County Amateur Golf Association Tournament of Champions in 1976. He won the 1980 Stark County Amateur by seven shots with rounds of 69, 73 and 65 that included a hole-in-one. In 1988 Mike won the Stark County Open by six shots with rounds of 71 and 64.
In 1980 Mike and fellow Golf Hall of Fame Member, Jim McFarren James, won the Akron Golf Association Lazor Best Ball Match Play Championship. In 2007, after three months of rehabilitation from losing parts of three fingers he tied for first in the Tigertown Open Senior Pro Division.
Mike advanced to the USGA United States Open Sectional Qualifier in 1985. In the 1990’s he won three Tornado Tour events and in 2002 he won a Senior Tornado Tour event.
Mike resides in North Canton with his wife Chris and two sons, Logan and Frank.
DR. JEFF MALLETTE
Jeff played golf at Central Catholic High School and was a four-time letter winner and three-time MVP at Walsh University. He was a three-time NAIA qualifier and a three-time Academic All-American while at Walsh. Jeff was inducted into the Walsh University Hall of Fame and was also the recipient of the Ray Pennell Sportsmanship Award presented by the Ohio Public Golf Association.
Jeff was the low amateur at the Ohio Open in 1995 and was runner-up in 1996. He was the 1998 Ohio Public Links Champion and was runner-up in 1995 and 1999. In 2006 he won the Ohio Mid-Amateur and placed in the top ten three other years. Jeff also played in five Ohio State Amateurs placing seventh in 2007. In 2012 he won the Northeast Ohio Amateur and is a three-time Tigertown Open Amateur Champion. Jeff is a three-time Stark County Amateur Champion winning in 1998, 2000 and 2009. He is an eight-time Brookside Club Champion, a two-time Chippewa Club Champion and a two-time Firestone Club Champion.
Jeff has qualified in five U.S. Amateurs, four U.S. Mid-Amateurs and has advanced to the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier three-times. In 2007 he was a participant in the Lupton Invitational in Tennessee. He has played in many team events including the 2009 Baltusrol Invitational in New Jersey placing fourth, the 2007 Champions Cup at the Champions Club in Texas placing seventh and a first place finish at the 2006 Canterbury CC in Cleveland.
Dr. Mallette resides in Jackson Township with his wife, Colleen and sons Adam, Ryan and daughter Allison. He has been practicing dentistry since 1991.
MARGE TITTA
Marge coming from a golfing family started playing golf when she was six years old at the former Orchard Hills Golf Course, which is now known as Arrowhead Country Club.
Marge was a seven-time Champion of the Year in the Tri-County Women’s Golf Association from 1956 to 1966, along with winning numerous other Tri-County individual events over the years. She was a two-time Champion of the Stark County Women’s Amateur Golf Association. She was the Hubbard Open Champion in 1961.
In 1960, 1961 and 1964 Marge received the Carling WHBC Women’s Golfing Award of the Year. In 1961 Marge was crowned the Carling WHBC Woman of the Year in Sports.
Marge was an 18-time Edgewood Golf Club Ladies Champion. In 1966 she held course records at six area golf courses, including a 68 at her home course, Edgewood. In 1971 she was low net at the Maude Coode Memorial Tournament. In 1956 Marge had one of the lowest handicaps ever recorded in the Women’s Akron District golf Association with a handicap of one. Her lowest handicap recorded was a plus two.
Marge moved to Boynton, Florida in 1983 and passed away in 1988 from cancer. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Titta-Bogott of California.
DOUG VAN NOSTRAN
Doug attended Glenwood High School earning three varsity golf letters. He graduated from Florida Southern College and played on the golf team.
Doug previously was low amateur at the Tigertown Open and has been a runner-up in the Stark County Amateur. He is a three-time Club Champion at Congress Lake Club.
Doug holds two course records with a score of 61 on both the Old North and South Bob-O-Link Golf Courses.
He has won the Northeastern Ohio Senior Amateur and was a runner-up at the Ohio Hall of Fame Senior Classic at Plumbrook Country Club in Sandusky, Ohio.
On a national level, Doug previously qualified for one USGA Public Links and two USGA Mid Amateurs.
He is currently a board member of the Northeast Ohio Golf Association and was also a past board member and president of the Stark County Amateur Golf Association.
Doug coached golf at North Canton Hoover High School for three years.
Doug resides in North Canton and is President of Van Nostran Young Insurance Agency.
RANDY YOUNG
Randy attended Glenwood High School, being named to the All-County Golf Team his junior and senior years. Following high school, he attended Georgia Military College and Bowling Green State University, where he played golf for four years.
Randy won the Stark County Amateur Golf Association Tournament of Champions and the SCAGA Match Play Tournament. He also won the Northeast Ohio Golf Association Stroke Play Championship in the Open and Senior Divisions.
He has won seven club championships: one at the Eldorado Country Club in Houston, Texas, two at Edgewood Golf Club and four at the Congress Lake Club.
In 1984, Randy led the U.S. Public Links qualifier in Cleveland and went on to play in the Public Links in Spokane, Washington. He also played in the U.S. Amateur at Shoal Creek in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1998, he advanced to the U.S. Open Sectional qualifier. Randy also has qualified for the U.S. Mid-Amateur.
Randy coached the Oakwood and GlenOak golf teams for five years and was twice named Stark County Golf Coach of the Year. He also has served on the SCAGA board for many years. He currently serves as a member of the Stark County Amateur Golf Hall of Fame committee.
Randy and wife Tracy live in North Canton. They have two grown children: Randy Jr. of Columbus, Ohio and Melissa Ankerman of Chicago, Illinois.
